Packing lists

What I bring, and why.

  1. Day hike

What I carry on a normal alpine day.

  2. Via ferrata

Steel cable, iron rungs, exposed rock. The kit that keeps your hands, head and rope work honest.

  3. Winter hike

A day on snowy trails. Staying warm when you stop, not just when you move.

  4. Trail running

Light on your feet, fast and in the flow: packed light.

  5. Mountaineering tour

Glaciers, ridges and roped travel. The technical kit that keeps you out of crevasses and off the deck.

  6. Multi-day tent tour

Several self-sufficient days under a tent. You carry your home, your kitchen and your bed — so every gram counts, but so does safety and a little comfort.

  7. Multi-day hut tour

Three to five days hut to hut. Light enough to enjoy, complete enough to be safe.
