Spannorthütte
A wonderful day trip to the loveliest SAC hut in the Engelberg valley, at the foot of the Schlossberg.
A spectacular spot below the Schlossberg
The Spannorthütte sits in a commanding position at the foot of the Schlossberg, not far from the Gross and Klein Spannort, in wild, untouched surroundings. As a day tour it’s best reached via the Fürenalp cable car: a lovely, gently descending trail leads to Stäfeli, and from there it climbs — steeply in places — to the hut and a well-earned lunch.
A short, easy scrambling passage on solid iron steps has to be tackled on the way; the alternative via the Ortflue is impressive but only recommended for experienced mountain walkers (T5). The descent follows the normal trail back to the valley station.
Tip: the hut’s legendary Spätzlipfanne defies a one-line description — build time in for it.
On my list but not yet walked myself — a personal report will follow.
