Klettersteig Tres Signori
An airy via ferrata above the Magadino plain near Bellinzona. Between Mornera and Albagno, a medium (K3–4) and a hard (K5) variant climb the Sasso Torrasco, capped by a 15-metre suspension bridge.
Via Ferrata Tres Signori above Mornera
The Tres Signori via ferrata sits high above Bellinzona, above the Mornera lift station. From Monte Carasso the cable car brings you up, and it’s then about 30 minutes to the start. The route is fairly long and scenic, with a lovely, sunny south-facing aspect. Take the harder variant and you get varied climbing throughout, mostly grade C with the odd B section and an overhanging D bulge at the end.
Tip: On fine days be sure to reserve the cable car from Monte Carasso, or the wait can add up to over an hour. From Curzútt you can also shorten the approach on foot.
How it went for me
Because the lift was fully booked and we’d otherwise have waited an hour, we climbed up on foot via Curzútt and took unofficial shortcuts to the start. The day was warm and sunny, the scenery gorgeous, and we did the harder version — by the end we were thoroughly spent. Difficulty and length were exactly right. Down at the bottom we waited an hour for the lift, and put away a glorious minestrone and a tiramisù while we did.
