An impressive full-day traverse from Engelberg over the Surenen Pass to Attinghausen — part of the Via Alpina.
Over the Surenen Pass, far from civilisation
The day hike from Engelberg to Attinghausen over the Surenen Pass is one of the most impressive routes in Central Switzerland, and part of the Via Alpina. From the Fürenalp it climbs through the wild Surenental to the pass, with a unique view of the snow-capped Titlis and the surrounding peaks.
Beyond the pass a wonderful view opens over Lake Uri and the Reuss valley, before the long descent toward Attinghausen. A big but rewarding stage.
Tip: far more descent than ascent — save something for the knees, and check conditions at the pass beforehand.
