Stäuberweg

The Fürenalp classic: a power trail past the mighty Stäuber waterfall, with grand views into the Surenental.

Full power at the waterfall

Waterfalls have a certain magnetism, and the Stäuberweg leads past a magnificent one. From the Fürenalp the path drops gently toward the Surenental, past glaciers, needle peaks and huge rock walls — the scenery here is striking enough that you have to watch you don’t trip over your own feet.

Above the Alp Hobiel you see and hear the Stäuber from far off; on the bridge you feel its full force, and the damp spray is a welcome refreshment on warm summer days. A lovely trail with two inviting mountain inns then leads back to the Fürenalp cable car.

Tip: a regional classic with the finest waterfall views in the valley — popular with kids, too.

On my list but not yet walked myself — a personal report will follow.
