Rund um den Walenstock
The great round: a long, varied loop of the Walenstock via the Rugghubelhütte, Rot Grätli and Bannalp.
The great round
Anyone used to alpine terrain with a fine day to spare should keep this loop of the Walenstock free. From Brunni the trail leads up to the Rugghubelhütte, where a short stop with a cool drink is worthwhile. The next point is the Rot Grätli — the landscape here is wild and barren, and with a bit of luck you’ll meet an ibex.
At the Bannalper Schonegg the view opens onto the Bannalpsee and the rest of the tour. At the Urnerstafel restaurant you can recharge before the final part over the Walegg, with breathtaking views into the Engelberg valley and across lovely alpine meadows back to the Brunnihütte.
Tip: a long day — start early, and cool your feet in the Härzlisee at the end.
