Rophaien
A demanding panorama loop up the Rophaien high above the Urnersee — steep grass and scenic ridges with a grand drop to the lake.
A loop over the Buggigrat
From Sisikon the path climbs through the Buggital and over the Buggigrat to the Rophaien — the ridge alone rewards you with grand views over the Urnersee. Up top it turns steep and exposed; in spring there’s still plenty of snow on the summit, and the steps ice up quickly. The descent runs over Teischplanggen and the lovely traverse beneath the Ricki toward Eggberge.
Tip: A wonderful place to spend the night: there’s a little shelter by the tent spot on the way, and the sunset over the lake is the real reward. If the Eggberge funicular isn’t running, the descent to Flüelen turns long.
How it went for me
We were out in April, and with the funicular shut down for Covid, the descent all the way to Flüelen turned long and tiresome. But the traverse beneath the Ricki was gorgeous, and the Buggigrat served up views to drop to your knees for. The climb to the tent spot was long and hard; there was still a lot of snow on the summit, quite icy and with the steps already worn in. The camp itself was superb — snow-free, with a shelter beside it — and the sunset more than made up for the long day.
