Lägerngrat
A short, adventurous ridge walk along the Lägern, the easternmost spur of the Jura. The narrow, partly rocky limestone crest gives wide views over the Mittelland to the Alps — a favourite high above the pretty town of Baden.
Starting in the pretty town of Baden, this small ridge is the most exciting scramble route you will find in the area. It basically starts in town, and there are old castles to discover too. The ridge is narrow and a bit exposed, upper T3, but a lot of fun!
You can turn around to make a loop at the Burgruine Alt Lägern, where the scrambly, interesting part of the ridge is over, and return to Baden. Or continue all the way to Steinmauer so you have hiked the entire ridge.
Tip: This hike is quite popular and can become crowded on sunny weekends. However, it’s a great small winter hike if there is not too much snow on the ridge. In Baden, public hot-spring baths await you — a great evening ritual in the city and perfect to warm up after a hike in cold weather.
