Engelberger Rotstock

The 'pyramid of Engelberg': a summit tour from the Rugghubelhütte over the loose upper structure.

The pyramid of Engelberg

From the Rugghubelhütte you follow the trail toward the Rot Grätli. Rugged rock walls frame the arena around the hut, and with a bit of luck you’ll spot ibex or an eagle circling above. Look toward the summit and it’s soon clear why the mountain is called Rot Grätli / Rotstock. Just below the top the blue-and-white path turns a little “scree-y” up to the summit.

A rewarding summit tour straight from the Rugghubelhütte, with views over the Engelberg valley.

Tip: best combined with an overnight at the Rugghubelhütte. (Route figures to be added.)

On my list but not yet walked myself — a personal report will follow.
