A magnificent autumn tour above the Riemenstalden valley up the Chaiserstock (2515 m) — T4 with exposed, chain-secured scrambling and a panorama that, on clear days, floats above a sea of clouds.

A wonderful autumn outing for when it’s no longer too hot and you often stand above the sea of clouds, the lakes far below. The panorama is spectacular. The tour is T4 and firmly at the upper end of the scale: everything difficult is secured with very sturdy chains, yet it stays exposed — to enjoy this one, you should like to scramble.
The family-run cable car at the Chäppeliberg saves you the long grind up from the valley and drops you right into the terrain. From the top station the route climbs over alpine pastures and scree to the summit block, where the scrambling begins: short, steep steps of rock, chained wherever it matters. The summit rewards you with a sweep across Lake Uri and Lake Lucerne, the Mythen and the Glarus ranges — on clear autumn days the sea of clouds lies in the depths like a second lake.
Tip: Start early. After 9 a.m. the cable car at the Chäppeliberg gets busy, especially at weekends, and waits of up to an hour are normal.
